A slower encounter with the desert.

Lizard Labyrinth began as a participatory installation at AfrikaBurn in the Tankwa Karoo in 2024. Livia served as creative lead and organiser.

A 14-metre meditative walking labyrinth held two mirrored wooden lizards at its centre, each seven metres long. Their bodies were built into benches, creating places to rest within the work.

The installation brought attention to the small endangered species of the Karoo and the effects of human footsteps. Its scale invited visitors to notice creatures that can easily disappear beneath a larger view of the landscape.

From labyrinth to laboratory

In 2025, the project grew into Lizard Laboratory at Nowhere Burn in Spain, with Livia as lead artist. Across these settings, mirroring becomes more than a painted technique: it becomes a structure people can move through and share.
